Football feeling optimistic despite setbacks
Optimism has carried some Falcon football players through their early games this season.
Lawrence North, now ranked eighth in class 6A, handed a tough 0-55 loss to the Falcons in their first game of the season.
The Falcons faced another tough test Aug. 30 at Southport, falling 49-21 despite a tied halftime.
However, two senior players remain optimistic despite their struggles.
“We’ve been working so much outside of our normal practices that everything is winnable. We’re physically competing with every team,” senior Chance Arboneaux says. “We just have to execute it.”
Arboneaux believes the team’s more rigorous practice has better prepared them for the season. He also mentions this season will be different than the past, as the leaders will be lineman, whereas previous seasons have been led by skill players.
Senior Brandon Corliss agrees with Arboneaux’s enthusiasm for this season. “Every game is winnable from here on out,” Corliss says.
Coming close at halftime again, they lost to Franklin Community 60-35. The Falcons led in the first quarter and in the beginning of the second, only to be superseded by a few points at halftime.
“Our offensive line played really well,” Corliss says. The game against Franklin Community being the Falcons’ highest score this season supports that.
The Falcons play Plainfield tonight at Plainfield High School.
