Henninger resigns as football coach
At the end of the 2019 football season, head coach Matthew Henninger officially resigned.
The job isn’t easy. The head coach needs to be on-call at all times, requiring extensive personal sacrifice throughout the year.
“I’ve come to a point where I have to step away in order to focus my time and attention on other priorities,” Henninger says.
Reflecting on his career, Henninger feels he has built the foundation of a good program, and the moment is right to take a step back.
“I’ve loved it, and I’ll miss it, but it is time for me to walk away,” Henninger says.
According to athletic director Doug Schornick, the department is looking at candidates inside and outside the building.
“We’ll leave no stone unturned,” Schornick says.
With less than a year before football preseason starts, he hopes to find a perfect fit for the position.
