Promos directors compete in Indianapolis film fest

On July 26-28, 2019, five Perry students participated in the Indy Film Fest, to determine who could make the best short film in only 48 hours, with filmmakers from all over Indianapolis.

Seniors Eric Elijah Carnes, Lucas Ferdinand-McDonald, Zackary Bunnell, Matthew Hayden and Noah June, united to compete against 32 filmmaker groups.

The Perry students’ film, “The Hell That Happened” featured a protagonist whose  clothes are stolen from his gym locker and their genre was a short slapstick film. All groups were given a real estate agent character, a turkey baster prop, and the dialogue line “How about a quick game?” to incorporate into their movie.

Each member faced different challenges throughout the filming and editing process, but the experience allowed them to grow in their time management.

Bunnel said, “Filming was a challenge because of the many retakes, but in the end, everything went smoothly.”

Winners earned an opportunity to screen their film at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival.

Carnes said, “I learned the importance of clear cinematography to express a plot, and at the same time encourage others, if you’re passionate about something, go out there and do it.”

The film can be seen on the Perry Promos YouTube Channel.
