With a time of 49.07 seconds in the 400 meter race sophomore Uriah White is already creating history at PMHS by breaking the prior record For White, this achievement is not a surprise but another fulfillment of a bigger goal he has set: to keep winning. It doesn’t really feel too crazy that I broke it because when I first came to Perry I set my mind on getting the 400 meter record,” White said.
Although White is homeschooled, he runs for the PMHS track team as his older brother also ran for the team setting records for the two mile race. The newcomer has quickly risen to be a standout athlete on the team who helped him adjust to a new environment. “I’m not a very social person, so it’s helpful when people let me know I can be myself around,” White said. His success comes from both talent and mindset. White believes that his faith and training to continue guiding him through every race and workout. “I believe in my training and what the Lord has planned for me to accomplish what I want to do with track,” said White.
White’s goal of winning extends beyond breaking school records but being able to run at both the collegiate and professional level.“My goals overall with track I would say are, I want to be able to run at the pro level, obviously I do want to go D1 God willing, I just in all reality want to run as long as I possibly can and win for as long as I can,” White said. His reality is already starting off on the right track as he won the Marion County Championship in the 400 meter.
