Girls Place at Track State

A select group of runners on the girls track team visited Indiana University Bloomington this summer to compete in their state competition. The girls had more competitors attend the meet this year compared to last season, where only 4 members attended. Although none of the girls thought they placed where they should have, assistant coach Nikki Knight says, “I would imagine all of the girls would have loved a few extra inches or to drop a few seconds…but when you work so hard for one day and you get one shot at your best…you do what you can.”

Representing Perry Meridian were alumni Heather Orr, who placed 23rd in the high jump, Alexis Hill placing 11th in the shot put, senior Sadie Hill, who placed 8th in discus throw, juniors Caitie Baird placing 18th in the long jump, junior Yanni Hunter, who placed 10th in the 400 meter dash, and sophomore Hannah Bargue with a placement of 16th in the 400 meter dash.

After all scoring in the top 27 of their respective events in the state, the competitors are thankful for a successful season and determined to get better. “It was a good experience so I’m excited to get back to work to hopefully improve next year,” Baird said after her first time at state.
