Erin McKenna, Staff Reporter
I spent maybe 20 minutes trying to figure out how to start things and came to the conclusion that there’s no possible way I can start this without it feeling awkward. We’re just going to say hi like this, and we can move on. I’m Erin McKenna and this will be my first year as a FOCUS writer. I’m a junior, but last year while talking to my counselor about classes for this year he asked me what I wanted to do in the future, so he could help me pick classes that felt relevant to me. I told him I’d like to be a journalist or reporter of some sort, so he recommended FOCUS to me. So here I am typing this out for you to read. After the class was recommended to me I started paying more attention when FOCUS issues were passed out. Instead of just flipping through them I started to go through and appreciate the work the writers were doing. I started to get excited about the idea of being a part of it. Aside from FOCUS I’m not super involved in any school extracurriculars, but I’m hoping to change that this year. Wanting to be more involved in school activities is yet another reason I was looking forward to being a part of the FOCUS. To help me out with this I’ll be writing about some of our school events this year. Other than school happenings, I’ll be writing some lifestyle and community pieces this year. Things like trends, new music or movies all fall under lifestyle. Community pieces could be anything from new restaurants opening in the area to general local news. Lifestyle and community both give me a little more freedom with what I can write about, while school happenings are a little more relevant considering this is a school paper. No matter what the story may be about, I’m looking forward to having fun with it and putting out interesting content for you all to read.
