Teachers drift into room 8E with their Crock Pots of buffalo chicken dip or boxes of chips and usually someone scrambling to find napkins and silverware. Every month the English department will host a pitch in for their department as a way to “build morale” Dana McNulty said. These pitch-ins often have a theme tied to them; some notable themes have been soup for the “souper bowl,” a french “bon voyage” and a Saint Patrick’s day themed pitch in which everyone had to bring in something green. Daniel Schoch, who typically brings either his buffalo chicken dip or pork shoulder, had to dye his buffalo chicken dip green to match the theme, turning it into “a neon green substance that looks like baby food…really a wild experience,” McNulty said. Not only do these pitch-ins fill the appetite of the teachers but also fill the room with laughter. “My favorite part of the pitch-ins is just us getting together having the time to laugh and eat and just have a moment to breathe,” McNulty said. Not only do teachers have pitch-ins but so do the students. Students in AP Capstone have a tradition of planning pitch-ins after completing a big assignment like for AP Seminar students turning in their team presentations to the College board. “I love doing these pitch-ins. They are a perfect way to break tension and bring everyone together,” junior Olivia Shewmaker said. Pitch-ins allow for both students and teachers to enjoy a little break from the daily routine of school.
