James Charles is undeniably a loser. He lies, he abuses his power and he disregards the consequences of his actions. He is a loser. Back in 2016, he seemed like a fresh face amongst the rest of the older beauty gurus on the internet. Especially after his front page coverage in Teen Vogue magazine. However, the thing about fame is, it tends to go to a person’s head. And Charles has always had a “big head” to quote himself. 

Charles is no stranger to controversy, from the mess that was “Dramageddon” to his weird desire in the past with dating straight men. Though, his most well-known and disturbing controversy is his predator allegations. An ex-fan has claimed that he communicated with them while they were minors, having sexual intentions. If that has not already soured your opinion of him, it should be known that this has happened on multiple occasions, being accused by at least fifteen young men. It is almost unbelievable that someone like him still has a prevalent following. 

In recent news, Spirit Airlines has gone out of business, putting around 17 thousand out of work, Amber Vargas being one of them. Vargas is a former Spirit Airlines employee who privately messaged Charles in an attempt to receive money from him to help her get back on her feet. Regardless of the reasons behind it, the situation already feels off. Asking a person you do not know for money is strange, let alone asking a public celebrity. Although, it should be known that it was in the form of a GoFundMe donation and not a direct request. 

The climax of this issue occurred on May 8, 2026. While the rest of the world continued on, trying to make something good out of it, Charles recorded a minute long TikTok bashing Vargas. “Why would I ever help you?” Charles asked. In the video, he continued to claim that Vargas is lazy and entitled, saying that “getting another job” would be more worthwhile to her. For a person who has been on the internet for over half a decade, one would think that they would have better media training. Everyone knows that videos made out of fiery passion hardly end up being received well. The whole video felt like a long Freudian slip, giving complete insight into how Charles really feels about the less fortunate around him. Overall, the video had a harsh tone and came off very aggressive and combative over something that really is a nonissue.

Less than 24 hours after the video went up, Charles received an immense amount of backlash from his own fans. The consensus was that Charles’ response video came off as hostile and “out-of-touch,” one fan said. Obviously, when a celebrity or influencer is criticized on the internet, the only follow-up is to post an apology video. The public “apology” Charles posted immediately after the backlash was, in simple terms, awful. He defends the stance, restating that people should keep working for themselves instead of asking for money. This apology was deleted. He then posted a second apology shortly after, completely doubling down on his original point. This apology was also deleted. He makes one last apology where he criticizes his other apologies for how out of touch they were, finally mustering a somewhat decent apology. The only problem is that he was shirtless in all of his apologies with a full face of makeup. So, he got up, put on makeup and lied back down to film a third apology. What is even the point anymore? 

So what is next? Do we persecute him for the umpteenth time? Do we harass Vargas for not accepting any of his apologies? Honestly, why even bother? It is very surprising that he still has a following after everything, especially his predator accusations. So why even bother with him? The moment Charles redid his makeup, checked his lights and pressed play… He lost.
