Saturday, May 9 marked the night a rising Burmese star, Joshua Van had claimed a major win in the UFC 328. His victory created excitement and pride for many people especially within the Burmese community. This fight had gained many views as families from all over the world watch closely and cheer as he wins his fight.
Many fans say the fight was exciting and shocking to watch. Although many supporters were nervous at first, but Van started gaining control of the match and people started gaining hope.. “During the fight I felt so anxious because I thought he was going to lose. But after he won I felt so proud,” said freshman Lal Sang.
Supporters believe Van’s victory means more than just winning a fight. Fans say he is inspiring younger generations and opening up more opportunities within the Burmese Community.
Many believe Van’s success is helping bring more recognition to the Burmese community worldwide. “[Burma] is never recognized before and he is representing the Burmese [community] more,” said Sang.
Although Van’s victory was a huge moment in the UFC, many people believe it was also an important moment for the Burmese community. His success brought pride, hope, and recognition for the Burmese community around the world. Fans continue to support Van as he represents his culture. “He represented us…it was just a happy moment,” said senior Van Bik.
