A new face can be seen around the halls at PMHS, Eric Sinclair, the new assistant principal for the senior class. After the previous assistant principal, Dr. Brian Bulmer, has become Perry Township Schools’ new Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. While Sinclair is a new addition to staff, he is already familiar with the community at Perry. “I live in Perry and so I have interacted with some people from that, my kids go to school [in the district]…[so] I want to help shape what their educational experience will be like,” Sinclair said.
Sinclair has already started to settle down in Perry, though he is originally from Illinois where he taught English for 10 years before eventually transitioning into more administrative roles as he was the assistant principal for Arsenal Tech, principal of Emmerich Manual High School and associate principal of Crystal House. As he has worked various roles from being inside and outside the classroom, he has taken those experiences to help shape his philosophy working with students. “I am a student first type of educator, so I always try to see things through the lens of the student and how I can benefit you as students,” Sinclair said.
Assistant principals help oversee a specific class. As the assistant principal for the senior class he wants to make sure that he can lend a helping hand even with only four months left, “I hope to meet a lot of the seniors and get to know them in my short time…anything I can do to help [them] get across that finish and walk the stage, let me know. I’m your man. My door is always open,” Sinclair said.
Not only is he excited to connect with the senior class, he is also excited to see more of PMHS, “I’m looking forward to seeing what makes Perry different. What are the events? What are the traditions that make Perry?” Sinclair said.
As Sinclair continues to adjust into his new role at PMHS, he hopes to build strong relationships and bonds with students and become an active presence and face in the school community. With a warm welcome from the staff it has helped him ease into his new position. “It’s always hectic to start a new position…but everybody has been super helpful and really willing to show how things are done here, so I look forward to learning more.”
With a student-first mindset and an eagerness to learn more about Perry, Sinclair looks forward to supporting the senior class and contributing to the traditions and culture that define PMHS.
