On November 3, Perry Meridian bathrooms flooded which caused a smell to waft in the air and travel throughout the halls of the first floor and into the parking lot. This made it hard for students to breathe in the hallways and focus on school grounds.
Some students had trouble trying to use the bathroom. “I needed to use the bathroom so badly, and even though we could use it, we couldn’t flush it, which to me was very weird,” sophomore Tha Sung said. Sung’s twin sister, Biak Sung has her own thoughts as well about the smell. “The smell was so bad that I didn’t even want to eat lunch that day,” Biak said.
Principal Kert Boedicker, issued a public statement to all students and their families about the issue that happened. “Our restroom will be fully operational, and the water backup will be controlled. The impacted areas have been thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and ventilated. We have confirmed that the isolated areas impacted today are safe and ready for use,” Boedicker said.
Monday night on WRTV NEWS, junior Aiden Buehler was interviewed by a reporter to talk about the issue with the bathroom. “My Spanish class was close by in that area and we had to move out to the tennis courts,” Buehler said.
Buehler was referring to the flood of water in the dungeon, which some of the admin reported saying the water that was in the area was clean. The staff and students were skeptical about the claim.
Since Monday, the building has been cleared by the Marion County Health Department, and the plumbing issue has been resolved (WTHR).
